World Poetry Day at USUST
On March 21, 2025, the global community celebrates World Poetry Day — a day when words gain special power. The Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies actively joined in this celebration.
At the Fiction Lending Department of the USUST Scientific Library, an exhibition titled “The Peaks of World Poetry. The Ukrainian Accent“ was unveiled, showcasing works by both classical and contemporary authors.
One of the key events was the premiere of the video project “Poetic Spring”, initiated by the library. Students from all university institutes participated, reciting poems by Lesia Ukrainka and Pavlo Vyshebaba, as well as excerpts from the works of Oles Honchar.
Students of the SEI USUCT organized a poetry flash mob, reading iconic lines of Ukrainian poetry that resonate with today’s youth. A special place was given to the words of Taras Shevchenko:
“The cherry orchard by the house,
Beetles hum over the cherries…”
This year’s World Poetry Day coincided with the 95th anniversary of Lina Kostenko — a legend of Ukrainian poetry. Her words serve as a spiritual guide for present generations:
“One must endure all things in life,
For every finish is, in essence, a start…”
Poetry is not just the art of words. It is a symbol of national revival, a source of strength, and a guiding light for the future.
