Victory of USUST Professor Marharyta Skyba in the Scientific Projects Competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine

In accordance with Order № 1801 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated December 27, 2024, a distinguished scholar of our university, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor Marharyta Skyba, emerged victorious in the section “Chemistry, Chemical Technologies, and Pharmacy” in the competition for fundamental scientific research projects, applied scientific research, and scientific and technical (experimental) developments for young scientists, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
A total of 168 scientific projects were submitted by higher education institutions and research establishments under the Ministry’s jurisdiction. Following rigorous scientific and technical evaluations, the Competition Commission, in its protocol decision of December 20, 2024, approved a list of 82 projects to receive state funding starting in 2025. Marharyta Skyba’s project, titled “Functionalization of Low-Temperature Eutectic Solvents and Target-Oriented Materials Based on Them,” ranked second in terms of scores.
Low-temperature eutectic solvents (Deep Eutectic Solvents, DES) represent a novel class of solvents formed by mixing two or more components, resulting in a melting point lower than that of each component individually. These solvents are environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and economically advantageous to produce. Due to their ability to dissolve a wide range of substances, DES are utilized in chemical synthesis, purification, biotechnology, and energy applications, positioning them as a promising area in the advancement of green chemistry.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Marharyta Skyba on her achievement and wish her continued success in her scientific endeavors!
