Victories of USUST athletes in spring

The track and field team of  SEI ‘Dnipro Metallurgical Institute’ of USUST, led by  Mykola Ivanovych Dziubenko, the senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, completed the 2024–2025 sports season with outstanding achievements, getting excellent results at both regional and national competitions.
Regional Success
In early May, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Universiade took place in Dnipro, where students of SEI ‘ DMI’ confidently earned prize-winning resuls:
  • Aliona Chass (group ME-03-22) – 1st place in triple jump and long jump
  • Viktoriia Babak (group ME-03-22) – 2nd place in both events
  • Ivan Furdui (group ML-01-24-M) – 1st place in men’s triple jump and long jump
  • Valerii Dziuba (group ME-07-24-M) – winner in the 800-meter race
National-Level Achievements
From May 6–7 and May 27, our athletes competed as part of the Dnipropetrovsk regional team at national-level events in Lutsk:
  • Aliona Chass won bronze twice in the triple jump:
    • At the Ukrainian Cup – with a result of 12.89 m
    • At the Ukrainian Team Championship – with 13.38 m
  • Ivan Furdui – 4th place in triple jump
  • Viktoriia Babak – 7th place in triple jump
  • Valerii Dziuba set her personal best in the 800 meters – 1:57.90, ranking in the national top 20
Unfortunately, due to an injury, Kyryl Fatieiev (group EP-01-23), another promising athlete, was unable to participate in the competitions.
Special Recognition
The achievement of Aliona Chass was a highlight of the season. She was officially awarded the title of “Master of Sport of Ukraine” during the competition in Lutsk. She met the required standard back in March at the Ukrainian Championship in Kyiv, jumping 13.63 m in the triple jump (MS standard – 13.50 m).
Looking ahead, the Ukrainian Youth Championship will be held on June 17–18 in Lviv, where the national team for the European Championship (July 17–18 in Norway) will be selected. Aliona has a strong chance of making the team – all she needs is to perfect her run-up.
Rowing Success
Our rowing team also achieved impressive results. Yan Kamanov (1st-year Master’s student, group MB02-24-M, SEI ‘DMI’) achieved two bronze medals at the Ukrainian qualifying competitions in academic rowing (April 30 – May 2, 2025, Kyiv):
  • In the single sculls (1x)
  • In the eight-man crew (8+)
Additionally, at the Ukrainian Yaul Rowing Competition held in memory of Honored Coach Stanislav Zahorii (May 17–18, 2025, Kyiv), Yan won in the “Men B” category.
Due his high results, Yan has been recommended for registration to participate in the World Summer Universiade, which will take place on July 14–27, 2025, in Germany.
Congratulations
We sincerely congratulate our athletes and the teaching staff of the Department of Physical Education and Sports on these outstanding achievements!
