USUST Track and Field Athletes Continue Conquering the Podiums

Students of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies continue to achieve victories and set records at national and international competitions.

Illia Kunin – A New Ukrainian Record!

Our university student, Illia Kunin, who is currently studying in the USA, has once again delivered a fantastic performance. After setting the Ukrainian record among youth in the 3000m event, he has now reached another historic milestone. On February 14, 2025, at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, he ran the 5000m in 13:37.08, setting a new national record among adults. The previous record (13:54.65) had stood since 1991.

Ukrainian Championship Among Adults and Youth (February 21-23, Kyiv)

Our track and field athletes also showcased outstanding results at Ukraine’s premier indoor competition.

Alona Chass (group ME-03-22, SEI DMetI) became the Ukrainian champion among youth and won a bronze medal among adults in the triple jump. Her result—13.63m—meets the qualification standard for the title of Master of Sport of Ukraine.

Ivan Furdui (group ME-03-24-M, SEI DMetI) won silver among youth and bronze among adults in the triple jump.

Other students also delivered strong performances:

  • Viktoriia Babak (group ME-03-22, SEI DMetI) – 4th place in the triple jump among youth.
  • Mark Nikolaienko (group UP-1111, SEI DMetI) – 6th place in the 200m sprint.
  • Kyrylo Fatieiev (group EP-01-23, SEI DMetI) – 8th place in the 60m hurdles.

All of them contributed to the regional team’s strong performance against athletes from 23 regions of Ukraine and Kyiv. As a result, the Dnipropetrovsk oblast secured third place both among youth (behind Kyiv City and Lvivska oblast) and among adults (behind Kyiv City and Kyivska oblast).
