USUST Track and Field Athletes at the Senior Ukrainian Championship

From August 8 to 10, 2025, the Ukrainian Senior Athletics Championship was held at the “Skif” Stadium in Lviv. The competition was one of the key events of the season and the final qualifying stage for the National Team of Ukraine ahead of the World Championship to be held in September in Tokyo, Japan. A total of 419 top athletes from all over the country took part in the Championship, including students of SEI ‘DMI’ of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, under the guidance of Mykola Dziubenko,.the head of the athletics section, senior lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Sport.
 
The opening ceremony was attended by President of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation Olha Saladukha, Deputy Ministers of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Viktoriia Riasna and Oleksii Nikitenko, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi, representatives of the city authorities, as well as Ukrainian sports legend, two-time Olympic champion Valeriy Borzov.
USUST athletes’ results:
  • August 9, the second day of the tournament:
      • Kyrylo Fatieiev (EP-01-23) finished 6th in the 400m hurdles final with a time of 53.85 sec, gradually recovering after a spring injury.
      • Valerii Dziuba (ME-07-24m) set a personal best of 1:56.24, finishing 6th in the 800m race.
      • Mark Nikolaienko (UP-2111) competed in the 400m race with a time of 51.56 sec. Unfortunately, his result was not included in the team standings.
  • August 10, the third and final day of the competition:
      • Ivan Furdui (ML-01-24m) won the bronze medal in the triple jump with a result of 14.40 m. He was just behind Viktor Yanenko (15.30 m) and Vladyslav Shepelev (15.03 m).
      • Alona Chass (ME-03-22 ) placed 5th in the triple jump with a result of 12.83 m. with a result of 14.40 m.  Despite her strong performance at the European Championship (13.75 m) and participation in the World Summer Universiade, this time the athlete managed to record only one valid attempt out of six and was unable to compete with more experienced jumpers who became championship medalist. Fatigue from the exhausting competition schedule — the European Championship in Norway, the World Universiade in Germany, and now the Ukrainian Championship — likely had its impact.
Despite the high level of competition, our students demonstrated strong results among the top track and field athletes of Ukraine. Under the challenging conditions of a packed sports season, they proudly represented USUST at this national-level championship.
