USUST team wins Mini-football Cup
On 23 May 2026, the sports complex of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs hosted the Mini-football Cup organised by the public organisation Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region. The tournament was held on the initiative of the Department of Education and Science of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration and Roman Maliehin, head of the Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region.
Staff teams from four universities took part in the competition, dedicated to Science Day:
- Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies;
- Dnipro University of Technology;
- Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs;
- Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
The tournament began with an official opening ceremony attended by representatives of the university, the Department of Education and Science, and the Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region. The participants were welcomed by Ihor Mahdalina, acting rector of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs; Mykola Kravchenko, head of the Department of Science and Higher Education of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration; and Roman Maliehin, head of the Council of Young Scientists of Dnipropetrovsk Region. The organisers emphasised the importance of supporting sports initiatives in the academic and scientific community, as they contribute to team cohesion and strengthen interuniversity cooperation.
The organisers representing USUST were Mykola Kalymbet and Valeriia Pavlova, heads of the Council of Young Scientists. The USUST staff team, which secured first place in the tournament, included:
- Taras Dutko – team coach and captain, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Education, Honoured Coach, and Paralympic Games football champion;
- Oleksandr Zaichuk – Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Affairs at USUST;
- Dmytro Afanasiev – senior lecturer at the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Education;
- Bohdan Kozak – Senior Lieutenant and Course Officer;
- Anton Kolomiiets – Major, head of the training course at the Faculty of Military Training of the State Special Transport Service;
- Dmytro Likarenko – Major, lecturer at the Department of Application of State Special Transport Service Units;
- Vitalii Miroshnyk – Associate Professor at the Department of Transport Infrastructure;
- Artem Petrenko – master’s student at the SEI ‘DIIT’;
- Mykola Pryimak – Lieutenant Colonel, senior lecturer, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Service at the Department of General Tactics and Basic Military Disciplines;
- Dmytro Solovei – Associate Professor at the Department of Sports Games.
The USUST team was awarded the championship cup and gold medals for first place. Artem Petrenko was recognised as the tournament’s best forward.

The USUST team’s success in the mini-football cup became a vivid demonstration of the unity, sporting spirit, and active engagement of the university community. Participation in such events not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also strengthens partnerships between higher education institutions, fosters teamwork, and supports youth and scientific initiatives.
