USUST Students Won Bronze at the 2025 Winter Universiade in Ice Hockey
The Ukrainian student national ice hockey team claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 Winter Universiade, held in Turin, Italy. In the decisive match for third place, our hockey players defeated the USA team with a score of 5:3.
It is particularly gratifying that three of our students from the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (SEI “Prydniprovska State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports”) were part of the national team: goalkeeper Danylo Makarenko and forwards Dmytro Kobylnyk and Tymofii Savytskyi. They delivered an excellent performance and helped the team secure the medals.
The road to bronze was challenging: in the group stage, the Ukrainian team finished fourth, securing an important victory against Poland (8:2). In the playoffs, the Ukrainians defeated the Czech Republic in overtime but lost to Slovakia in the semifinals. In the match for third place, the team confidently led the game, scoring five goals, with the decisive one delivered by forward Andrii Kryvonozhkin.
This victory is historic, as the last time Ukrainian student hockey players won Universiade medals was in 2001, also a bronze. The team’s greatest achievement dates back to 1999, when they claimed gold.
We congratulate our students on their brilliant victory and take pride in their contribution to Ukraine’s sporting glory!
