USUST students among winners of the Ukrainian Kyokushin Karate Championship
On April 4, 2026, the Ukrainian Kyokushin Karate Championship (kumite and kata) took place in Dnipro at the ‘Olimpiyski Rezervy’ sports complex. 450 athletes from 12 regions of Ukraine took part in the competition. The tournament also served as a qualifying stage for the European Championship. In total, 95 sets of medals were contested.
Students of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies worthily represented the university and demonstrated a high level of training.
First-year student Yelyzaveta Misiurenko (group FKS/A7-25-2B, SEI ‘PSAPCS’) became the absolute champion in her weight category, winning gold medals in two divisions – among juniors (16–17-years old) and adults (18–34 years old).
She also earned a silver medal in the kata category.
In addition to her medals, the athlete was awarded a diploma for ‘Best Technique’ and was granted the title of ‘Master of Sports of Ukraine’.
In a post-competition comment, multiple European champion Yelyzaveta shared:
‘I competed in two categories: 16–17 years old and women 18+. In total, I had three fights. Despite the fact that karate is quite a tough sport, I like it for its technique and discipline, which come first here’.
Fourth-year student Dmytro Onopriienko (group FKS/017-22-2B, SEI ‘PSAPCS’) also reached the top of the podium, becoming the champion in the under 90 kg weight category among adults (18–34 years old).
The organizers noted that the level of competition continues to grow each year, and the athletes’ preparation is becoming increasingly strong.
Based on the championship results, the Ukrainian national team roster was formed. It is gratifying that among the 100 athletes who will represent Ukraine at the European Championship in Varna, Bulgaria, this May, there are also students from our university.
