USUST signs memorandum with the Office of Spiritual Education and Theological Studies of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
On July 24, 2025, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation took place between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, represented by rector Kostiantyn SUKHYI, and the Office of Spiritual Education and Theological Studies of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), represented by professor and archpriest Oleksandr TROFIMLIUK.
The rector highlighted that as a regional and national leader in the training of specialists in chemistry, metallurgy, construction, and transportation, the University is also actively developing a wide range of philosophy-oriented academic programs. There are six professors of philosophy and a significant number of PhD holders in the field at the university.
The institution regularly hosts a variety of scholarly and academic-pedagogical events with a philosophical focus, including the annual International Scientific Conference “Philosophy and Culture in the Anthropological Dimensions of Modernity.”
Another symbolic and meaningful aspect of this collaboration is the recent discovery, made during research activities, that a century-old military chapel is located on the university grounds. This historic and religious monument is in need of restoration and preservation.
Moreover, the university is launching a new academic program in specialty B8 – Theology, which will provide training for both military chaplains and secular theologians, specialists who are in great demand in today’s complex and challenging times.
Archpriest Oleksandr emphasized that the Office of Spiritual Education is particularly interested in supporting the development of this program in Dnipro and will do everything possible to ensure its success. ‘This cooperation will contribute to the advancement of both secular and spiritual education because even secular education must be enriched with spiritual values. Our goal is not only to teach, but also to nurture and guide young generation’, noted the Head of the Office of Spiritual Education and Theological Studies of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
