USUST showcases Ukraine’s urban recovery experience at URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup 2026

The Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies participated in one of Europe’s leading platforms dedicated to the development of future cities, sustainable development, and the implementation of innovative technologies in urban environments. From 2 to 4 June 2026, Professor Vladyslav Danishevskyi, Doctor of Technical Sciences and director of the SEI ‘Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture’ of USUST, took part in the international exhibition and conference URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup 2026, held in Brno, Czech Republic.

The visit was organised at the invitation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, with coordination support provided by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Investment Agency (DIA), a municipal institution of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council.

URBIS traditionally brings together representatives of government, academia, business, and international organisations to discuss the future development of modern cities. This year, the forum welcomed more than 10,000 experts from over 30 countries worldwide.

The programme addressed a wide range of topics, including energy efficiency, Smart City solutions, transport mobility, digital services, urban planning, and so-called ‘Living Labs’, where new technologies are tested directly within real urban environments. The participants had the opportunity to explore best practices already being successfully implemented in Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, the Czech Republic, and Sweden.
One of the key events of the forum was the FutuRegio HUB round table, dedicated to strengthening the resilience of European cities in the face of military threats, crises, and global challenges. Professor Vladyslav Danishevskyi was among the principal speakers and presented Ukraine’s experience in urban infrastructure adaptation, risk management, and territorial recovery under the conditions of a full-scale war.

The presentation attracted considerable interest from the participants. At the invitation of the Czech Regional Development Centre, Professor Danishevskyi also gave interviews to television and media representatives, highlighting the challenges currently faced by Ukrainian communities and discussing the role of university research in developing innovative solutions for the country’s reconstruction.

An important part of the programme was participation in the opening of the Ukrainian Contact Ukraine stand. During the event, Professor Danishevskyi met with Vasyl Zvarych, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Czech Republic. During their discussion, he presented international projects implemented by the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies with the support of the European Union. These initiatives focus on post-war reconstruction, infrastructure modernisation, digital transformation, and the implementation of advanced engineering solutions.
USUST’s participation in URBIS The Smart Cities Meetup 2026, one of Europe’s leading forums on urban development, represents an important step in strengthening international partnerships, promoting Ukrainian scientific expertise in shaping contemporary approaches to urban recovery, and creating new opportunities for the implementation of post-war reconstruction projects in Ukraine. The experience of Ukrainian researchers and practitioners is attracting growing international attention and making a valuable contribution to the development of resilient, sustainable, and safe cities of the future.
