USUST participates in round table at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant

On 16 April 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies joined the Day of Specialized Higher Education Institutions held at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant. The event united leading technical universities of Ukraine, representatives of the energy sector, government authorities, and the academic community.
 
The university was represented by Vladyslav Kovba, Associate Professor of the Department of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics at the SEI ‘PSACEA’, head of the study programme Construction and Operation of Nuclear and Thermal Power Facilities’and deputy head of the Dnipro branch of the ‘UKRYAT’ NGO, as well as Oleh Kozhura, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Substances and Ecology at the SEI ‘USUCT’.

The round table ‘Social dialogue for the future of nuclear energy’ was the key point of the event. It brought together representatives of universities, specialists from the energy sector, and members of the expert community. The participants focused on such a strategic issue as the development of a highly qualified workforce for Ukraine’s nuclear industry.

The discussion emphasized the need to strengthen the practical component of educational programmes, adapt specialist training to contemporary conditions, taking into account distance learning, and enhance the integration of education with industry. Particular attention was given to expanding partnerships between universities and energy enterprises in order students can gain hands-on experience during their studies.

The participants of the round table emphasized that a systematic dialogue between the education sector, scientific community, and employers forms the foundation for training competitive professionals and ensuring sustainable development of the energy industry. Such interaction have already become effective in modernizing study programmes and introducing innovative approaches to engineering education.

The event also addressed the opportunities for students to undertake industrial and pre-graduation internships at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, which is an essential component of the professional development of future energy specialists.
 
The event showed the importance of sustained cooperation between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies and energy enterprises, aimed at preparing a new generation of professionals who can meet the challenges of modern nuclear energy.
