USUST Launches Preclinical Trials of Biocompatible Coatings for 3D Implants

As part of the research project “Development of Oxide-Ceramic Biocompatible Coatings for a New Generation of 3D Implants” and in accordance with the cooperation agreement between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies and the State Institution “Sytenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, an important phase has begun — preclinical trials on laboratory animals.

From May 12 to 15, 2025, Oleg Kalinichenko, a senior research fellow at USUST, participated in a series of surgical procedures on white laboratory rats. These experiments aim to assess toxicity, biocompatibility, and bone tissue regeneration processes. The university scientist not only took part in the work but also assisted in the surgeries, as officially recorded in the protocol. It is worth noting that all test animals are in satisfactory condition and are undergoing recovery.

The results of this research phase are expected to make a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian implantology and support the creation of innovative bioactive materials for medicine.
