USUST hosted a series of online meetings dedicated to Earth Day
On March 25–27, 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies hosted a series of online meetings focused on environmental issues as part of the national-patriotic lecture series ‘The resilience of the Ukrainian nation: history and present’. The events were dedicated to Earth Day and focused on an important topic: fostering environmental awareness and culture in contemporary society.
The discussions united academic advisors and students from several of the university’s educational and scientific institutes including USUCT, PSAPCS, PSACEA, DMI, and DIIT. Such extensive participation once again highlighted the relevance of the topic and young people’s strong interest in the relationship between humanity and the environment.
The speaker of the event was Maryna Hryhorivna Skladanovska, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy, PhD, and head of the Psychological Service at the SEI ‘PSACEA’. In her presentation, she focused on environmental psychology, a field that studies the relationship between people and both the natural and built environments, as well as the influence of this relationship on thinking, behavior, and values.
During the meetings, participants discussed how environmental culture is shaped through personal experience, traditions, and worldview. They also noted that a respectful attitude toward nature is deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture, reflected in folklore, customs, and everyday practices. At the same time, current challenges call to rethink this heritage and search new approaches to environmental protection.
The issue of individual responsibility for the state of the environment sparked lively discussion. The participants talked about the environmental problems we encounter every day – pollution, deforestation, and the depletion of natural resources, as well as about the definite steps that can help improve the situation.
The meetings were held in an open and engaging atmosphere, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and encouraging a more conscious attitude toward nature. Such initiatives confirm that the university not only educates, but also helps shape the values that are essential for the future of society.
