USUST expands international research cooperation through the Horizon Europe Programme

On 26 May 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies  hosted the webinar ‘Preparing and submitting project proposals for Horizon Europe calls’.  The event was organised by the National Contact Point for Climate, Energy and Mobility with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
 
The webinar provided participants with an overview of current opportunities offered by the Horizon Europe programme, insights into the development of competitive project proposals, and practical recommendations from experts and researchers with successful experience in international grant initiatives.
The participants were welcomed by Professor Vladyslav Danishevskyi,  director of the SEI ‘PSACEA’ and head of the National Contact Point for Climate, Energy and Mobility.
The programme featured presentations by leading specialists in international project development and research funding:
  • Marina Babenko, researcher at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, trainee at the European Commission, shared examples of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies  successful participation in Horizon Europe projects. Particular attention was given to the implementation of the PRECEPT project and practical aspects of the University’s engagement in international research initiatives.
  • Vladyslav Mykhailenko, chief  specialist at the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and PhD in Ecology, presented funding opportunities within the field of environmental protection. His presentation highlighted the differences between proposal preparation for Horizon Europe clusters and EU Missions, using Cluster 5 ‘Climate, Energy and Mobility’ and the EU Mission ‘Adaptation to Climate Change’ as case studies.
  • Kateryna Sokolova, deputy head of the USUST International Relations Office and Associate Professor, focused on the structure and logic of a successful Horizon Europe project proposal. Her presentation addressed the development of proposal content in accordance with programme requirements and expert evaluation criteria.
  • Anna Serdinova, leading specialist at the USUST International Office,  trainee at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), discussed the European Commission’s key expectations regarding project proposals. She emphasised the importance of a well-justified project idea, compliance with call requirements, and the clear formulation of expected project outcomes.

Participation in the Horizon Europe programme remains a strategic priority for USUST and an important instrument for supporting researchers and academics. The programme contributes to the expansion of international partnerships, the integration of the university into the European Research Area, the attraction of funding for innovative projects, and the professional development of researchers.
