USUST expands collaboration with medical science to address contemporary challenges

On February 12, 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies and the Ukrainian State Research Institute of Medical and Social Problems of Disability of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document marks a new stage of partnership in the fields of science, education, and medical and social research.

 

As part of the working meeting, the Institute was visited by the representatives of USUST: Vice-Rector for Reaseach and Academic Affairs Oleksandr Zaichuk; Head of the Career Development, Employment and Stakeholder Engagement Office Oleksii Sihunov; Senior Researcher Oleksandra Amelina; and Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Technologies of Ceramics, Glass and Biomedical Materials at the SEI ‘USUCT’ Olena Khomenko. The meeting was facilitated by Serhii Rokutov, head of the Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy at the SEI ‘PSAPCS’. The interdisciplinary composition of the delegation creates strong preconditions for comprehensive work on pressing challenges in the field of healthcare.

 

The Institute has a history of over one hundred years and is one of Ukraine’s leading research centers dedicated to the study of medical and social aspects of disability. Its activities integrate scientific research, clinical medical care, rehabilitation services, and educational initiatives. The institution conducts research in the areas of prevention, rehabilitation, and functional capacity assessment, and it has inpatient departments providing comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, and patient recovery services.

 

The Director of the Institute, Honored Doctor of Ukraine and Professor Denys Varyvonchyk, emphasized the importance of consolidating scientific, educational, and practical capacities to jointly address contemporary challenges, including safeguarding public health, advancing the rehabilitation system, strengthening medical and social support, and improving quality of life.

 

The Memorandum foresees the development of interdisciplinary research,  exchange of scientific and professional expertise, engagement of students and researchers in joint projects, and the implementation of research findings into practical activities.

The signing of the agreement is an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the University and the medical research institution. It is expected to foster the development of effective solutions relevant to contemporary Ukrainian society, as well as contribute to the sustainable development of both institutions.
