USUST celebrated the 20th anniversary of World Vyshyvanka Day

On May 20 and 22, a series of online lectures was held at USUST within the framework of the historical and patriotic project ‘Resilience of the Ukrainian nation: history and present’. Students of the SEI ‘USUCT’, ‘PSAPCS’, ‘DMI’, and ‘DIIT’ took part in the event, which was dedicated to a significant occasion – the 20th anniversary of Vyshyvanka Day in Ukraine and around the world.
 
Students, academic mentors, and all those interested in Ukrainian culture, traditions, and national memory joined the lectures titled ‘Vyshyvanka as a symbol of identity: from ritual clothing to a symbol of resilience’. The participants explored the spiritual origins of the Ukrainian vyshyvanka as a symbol of national identity, endurance, and a powerful cultural talisman passed down through generations as a treasured family heirloom.

During the lectures, the attention was given to the history of the Ukrainian vyshyvanka as a unique cultural phenomenon, its symbolism, regional distinctions, and its role in shaping national consciousness. Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of the vyshyvanka in contemporary society, especially in the context of Ukraine’s struggle for independence and the preservation of its cultural identity.

The speaker of the event was Larysa Bohuslavska, specialist of the Student Development Department at USUST, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and Associate Professor of the Department of Studies and Foreign Languages at the SEI ‘PSACEA’.
 
The lectures provided an opportunity to perceive the vyshyvanka not merely as an element of traditional clothing, but also as a symbol of spiritual unity, historical memory, and resilient spirit of the Ukrainian people. The event became a meaningful platform for dialogue on Ukrainian spirituality, cultural heritage, and the sacred code of the nation.

The lectures held at USUST on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Vyshyvanka Day became an important opportunity for students and educators to gain a deeper understanding of the vyshyvanka as a symbol of Ukrainian identity, spiritual heritage, and national resilience. The event encouraged reflection on the role of Ukrainian traditions in preserving the historical memory and cultural uniqueness of the Ukrainian people. The participants also engaged in a profound discussion about spiritual values of Ukrainians,  connection between generations, and importance of the vyshyvanka as a symbol of unity, patriotism, and  strength of the Ukrainian nation.
