USUST Award on World Science Day

On November 20, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES), in cooperation with the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, hosted a large-scale event dedicated to World Science Day. The event focused on presenting reforms, discussing challenges and prospect, and recognizing leading scientific institutions in Ukraine.

The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of supporting Ukrainian science even under challenging circumstances. “We are introducing new approaches based on international standards, including a new methodology for the state evaluation of scientific institutions. This will allow us to assess science not only by quantitative indicators but also by its real impact on the economy, defense capability, and society,” the Minister noted.

During the event, Deputy Minister Denys Kurbatov presented key stages of the scientific sector’s transformation, highlighting changes in funding and mechanisms for collaboration with international partners.

The event honored several leading institutions for their scientific achievements:

Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, which topped the publication activity ranking.

Lviv Polytechnic National University, achieving the most success in the Horizon Europe programme.

National Antarctic Scientific Center, which attracted the largest amount of international investments for its research.

Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (USUST) received a special award for developing human potential, having involved the largest number of young researchers in projects from 2021 to 2023. Representing the university, Vladyslav Danishevskyi, Director of SEI PSACEA, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor, participated in the event.

“This achievement is the result of the coordinated work of the university team. We are grateful to the Ministry of Education and Science for their support and for the motivation such events provide to Ukraine’s young scientists,” said Vladyslav Danishevskyi.

Such initiatives promote international cooperation, infrastructure development, and the attraction of foreign investments, all of which are critically important for the country’s recovery and the integration of Ukrainian science into the global community.
