USUST at the Round Table on Enhancing Ukraine’s Participation in the Horizon Europe Programme

On April 15, 2025, a round table titled “Enhancing Ukraine’s Participation in the EU Framework Programme Horizon Europe” was held. The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, as well as national contact points (NCPs) and members of programme committees.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategies for increasing both the quantity and quality of Ukraine’s participation in Horizon Europe — the EU’s largest framework programme for research and innovation.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine; Olha Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine; Yehor Pyvovarov, representative of the EU Delegation to Ukraine; and Ihor Taranov, coordinator of the NCP “Horizon Europe Office.”

Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies was represented by Vladyslav Danishevskyi, head of the National Contact Point “Climate, Energy, and Mobility,” which operates at USUST. It is the only NCP of its kind in the Prydniprovsk region.

Participants of the round table discussed the achievements and challenges faced by Ukrainian researchers when competing in Horizon Europe calls. The discussions focused on the collaboration between NCPs, programme committees, the Horizon Europe Office, and the Ministry of Education and Science — all aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s presence in the European Research Area.

The event also featured a presentation of a detailed report on the NCP’s activities, as well as updates to the website of the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, including a new section with key performance indicators of Ukrainian institutions’ participation in the programme.

EU representatives praised the effectiveness of the Ukrainian NCPs and emphasized that Ukraine currently benefits from unprecedented conditions for integration into the European Research Area — including funding opportunities, institutional support, and a high level of expert capacity.
