Training the Technical Elite in the Face of Contemporary Challenges

On April 11, 2025, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies hosted the annual inter-university scientific-practical conference titled “Training the Technical Elite in the Face of Contemporary Challenges.” The conference aimed to discuss pressing issues related to the education and development of student youth as the future technical elite of Ukraine amid martial law and global transformative challenges.​

The conference covered a wide range of topics, including pedagogical innovation in forming the humanitarian-technical elite, the role of curatorship in educating modern higher education students, academic integrity as a condition for forming the technical elite, and artificial intelligence as a tool for acquiring knowledge and skills among the technical elite.​

The organizing committee was led by the rector of the university, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kostiantyn Sukhyi. Other members included:​

  • Head of the Department for Educational Work of USUST, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST Valentyna Babenko, and other leading experts of the university.

On behalf of the head of the organizing committee, the rector of USUST, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kostiantyn Sukhyi, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Humanitarian Policy of USUST, Doctor of Public Administration, Professor Halyna Yevsieieva addressed the conference participants. The head of the professional pre-university education sector of the Department of Science, Higher and Vocational Education of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, Tetiana Velychko, also greeted the participants.

The conference was attended by scientific and pedagogical workers, young scientists, graduate students, and master’s students from higher education institutions across Ukraine, including from Kryvyi Rih (Kryvyi Rih Training and Research Institute of Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs), Kyiv (Kyiv City University of Borys Hrinchenko), the University of Salento (Lecce, Italy), and the scientific community of universities in Dnipro.

During the plenary session, a number of reports were heard on the current issues of training the technical elite:

  • Deputy head of the organizing committee, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Humanitarian Policy of USUST, Doctor of Public Administration, Professor of the Department of Public Administration, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST, Halyna Yevsieieva, presented her vision of the role of universities in preparing the humanitarian-technical elite of the state;
  • With a report on “Interactivity, Accessibility, Modernity: A Case Marathon on AI for Humanities Teachers,” Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines at the Dnipro Academy of Continuous Education, Anna Kyrpa, spoke;
  • Academic integrity as an important factor in training the technical elite amid the introduction of artificial intelligence was discussed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST, Valentyna Babenko;
  • Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Barannyk presented a report on strategies for coexisting artificial intelligence and humanities knowledge in the educational process;
  • Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST, Larysa Bohuslavska debunked myths about the omnipotence of AI and emphasized the role of the humanitarian elite in preserving meanings;
  • Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities of the SEI PSACEA of USUST, Olena Stepanenko explored the ways of transforming the humanitarian elite of Ukraine.

The event took place in an atmosphere of fruitful discussion and exchange of ideas. Following the conference, a collection of scientific works is planned for publication. The organizing committee expresses gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and hopes for further cooperation.
