The ‘Golden’ height of USUST student Yaroslava Mahuchikh

Yaroslava Mahuchikh, a student of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Olympic champion, and Ukraine’s leading high jumper, won the World Athletics Indoor Championships with a result of 2.01 m. This year, the 21st World Championships are taking place from March 20 to 22, 2026, in Toruń, Poland. More than 670 athletes from 118 national federations are competing in 26 disciplines.

 

On March 20, 11 athletes took part in the women’s high jump final, battling fiercely until the very end. The main medal contenders were clearing the bar up to 1.99 meters almost with no mistakes. The decisive height was 2.01 m: Yaroslava cleared it on her first attempt and confidently secured first place.

 

This victory was especially meaningful for the athlete herself. Before the competition, she already had a complete set of medals from the World Indoor Championships, but it was the gold medal she had been striving for and she achieved that goal.

 

The medal became the tenth gold award in the history of Ukrainian athletes’ performances at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. For Yaroslava, it was already her fourth consecutive medal at these championships. She has also become the first Ukrainian woman to win gold twice at the World Indoor Championships.

 

Today, Yaroslava Mahuchikh is an example of willpower, endurance, and determination. Her achievement is not only a personal result, but also a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian sport and to strengthening Ukraine’s presence on the international stage.
