‘Success to the fullest’: the story of Maksym Huba

Success rarely comes by chance. Most often, it is born from hard work, inner strength, and belief in one’s own abilities. This is exactly the story of Maksym Huba, a first-year student majoring in Computer Science and Technologies at the SEI ‘Dnipro Metallurgical Institute’ of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

At first glance, Maksym appears calm and reserved, a man of few words. However, he is mature, responsible, and his character is shaped by life’s trials. In 2014, when the war came to eastern Ukraine, his father was killed in the ATO zone. Very young at that time, Maksym was forced to grow up quickly, become a pillar of support for his mother, and learn to rely on his own. This experience taught him to value every day and to understand that true strength lies not only in physical power, but above all in knowledge, perseverance, and determination.

At school, Maksym showed interest in a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on philology and Ukrainian literature, and he enjoyed working with words. However, his true passion emerged when he discovered the world of information technologies. His computer science teacher, Vladyslav Eduardovych, who recognized the young man’s potential, became a true mentor to him. He was also influenced by his uncle Serhii, a specialist in security systems and alarm technologies, who demonstrated that modern technologies can not only make life easier, but also protect people.

By independently mastering programming languages such as Python, C++, C#, Visual Basic, and SQL, Maksym is discovering the limitless possibilities of the IT field. He is convinced that knowledge is power, and that English is the key to modern technologies. That is why he systematically finds time to study it, even without the support of a private tutor.

When asked how he manages to find time for everything, Maksym answers simply: it should not be wasted. Alongside his studies, he practices boxing and weightlifting. Sport has helped him become resilient, disciplined, and goal-oriented -both in the gym and in the university classroom.
Maksym defines his goal clearly: to become a professional who creates smart, secure, and useful technological solutions for the development of Ukraine. This is why his choice of the SEI ‘Dnipro Metallurgical Institute’ of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, was conscious and well considered. He carefully studied the academic programmes and listened to the advice of his family, in particular his uncle Serhii – a graduate of the institute. Thus, the university became a place where the future takes shape, dreams turn into plans, and plans into real steps forward.

Today, Maksym diligently attends all classes, actively communicates with lecturers, and demonstrates a high level of proficiency in his major disciplines.

‘He is always among the first to submit assignments and shows a genuine interest in learning’, says Tetiana Selivorstova, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies and Systems at the SEI ‘DMI’. ‘From the very first classes, Maksym has earned respect of both his classmates and lecturers’.

Many events, discoveries, and new achievements are still ahead. Yet every great journey begins with a first step – with the first line of code, the first bold decision, and faith in oneself.
