‘Success to the fullest: the story of Diana Volyniuk’

In the ‘Success to the fullest’ series, we continue introducing students of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies whose personal examples prove that perseverance, quality education, and a commitment to continuous development pave the way to professional success.

The personality of this edition is Diana Volyniuk, a first-year master’s student at the Faculty of Quality and Materials Engineering of the SEI ‘ Dnipro Institute of Metallurgy’, USUST, a graduate with honours and the holder of the title ‘Miss Charm of USUST -2025’.

This summer is a special one for Diana. Although her master’s studies are still ongoing, she is taking an important step in her professional life by starting  to work as an engineer in the electron microscopy group at ‘Interpipe’, one of Ukraine’s leading industrial enterprises.
Diana did not choose her future profession by chance. During the admission campaign, she explored various higher education institutions, communicated with representatives of different specialities, and searched for a field that would genuinely interest her. It was during a conversation with the admissions office of the SEI ‘Dnipro Institute of Metallurgy’, USUST that she first learned in detail about materials science.

‘It became so interesting to me that I immediately chose it,’ Diana recalls.

Today, she is confident about her right decision. Excellent academic performance, high achievements, and active participation in university life have become the foundation of her professional start.
At the same time, Diana is convinced that success is impossible without a willingness to reconsider established stereotypes. Studying in an engineering field traditionally dominated by men, she demonstrates through her own example that modern engineering has no gender limits.

‘I used to think that engineering was mostly hard physical work. Later, I realized that this is not the case at all. For example, I will be working in a laboratory under almost sterile conditions. What matters there is not strength, but precision’, she says.

Precision, attention to detail, and a responsible attitude toward work are qualities Diana considers among the most important for a future engineer.

‘If you count on unreliable information, you simply will not achieve the goal you have set’, she believes.
The faculty members have played an important role in her professional development. Diana tells with  special  gratitude about Olga Anatoliivna Nosko, dean of the Faculty of Quality and Materials Engineering, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

‘Diana is very attentive to detail and is not afraid of challenging tasks. She is not one of those people who stop halfway’, says Olga Anatoliivna Nosko.
Perseverance and discipline are not only with Diana in her studies. She has spent ten years practising dance, six years practising taekwondo, and holds a black belt. Sport taught her to work on self-improvement, not to give up after setbacks, and to move confidently toward her goals.

She especially remembers regional-level competitions where she had to compete against strong and highly accomplished opponents. Thanks to her determination and perseverance, she succeeded in winning second place.
In her free time, Diana is passionate about photography. She enjoys capturing people, emotions, and moments of everyday life, finding inspiration in simple things. At the same time, she values face-to-face communication, meeting with friends, and gaining new experiences.

When speaking about success, Diana does not focus on specific achievements or awards. ‘There is no maximum. You simply have to keep moving forward and improving yourself’, she says.

Her formula for success is simple – knowledge, self-confidence, ability to communicate with people, and a continuous desire for development.
Today, her professional interests extend far beyond classrooms and laboratories. The future engineer is interested in environmental issues, development of new materials, and search for technological solutions that combine high efficiency with a responsible attitude toward the environment.

The story of Diana Volyniuk is an example of how curiosity for knowledge, hard work, and the willingness to give one’s maximum effort help transform student dreams into real professional achievements. Most importantly, true success has no final destination, because every achievement becomes only the beginning of a new stage of development.
