National Unity Radio Dictation 2024 at the USUST
On 25th October 2024, around a thousand students and faculty members of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies participated in the largest Ukrainian-language flash mob — the National Unity Radio Dictation.
The event, dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language and the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian radio, brought the university community together across USUST’s scientific and educational institutes. This year’s Radio Dictation, the 25th in its history, was titled “The Magic of Voice.” The text was written by the well-known author Oksana Zabuzhko and narrated by Pavlo Vyshebaba—a poet, serviceman, and narrator known for his voice in Ukrainian fairy tales during peacetime.
The radio dictation at USUST began with a moment of silence in memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders. The event united students and faculty from all scientific and educational institutes at the university.
SEI “Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture”:
At the shelter № 1, students were joined by members of the “University of the Third Age” from Dnipro. After the dictation, they held an impromptu concert featuring Ukrainian songs and dances. During an air raid alarm, locals nearby joined the group in the shelter, underscoring the unity and resilience of the Ukrainian people.
SEI “Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology”:
In a cozy auditorium at the SEI USUCT, students and teachers wrote the dictation in a relaxed atmosphere, supporting each other in verifying their language proficiency and cultural unity. The event was led by the institute’s administration, who inspired participants with their example. After the dictation, attendees had the opportunity to discuss the importance of the Ukrainian language in fostering national consciousness. More about the event at SEI USUCT can be found here.
SEI “Dnipro Institute of Infrastructure and Transport”:
At SEI DIIT, the event was equally celebratory. Participants gathered to join the dictation, collectively affirming their knowledge of their native language and supporting the traditions of the Ukrainian-speaking community The atmosphere was full of enthusiasm and a shared goal of unity, especially meaningful in today’s times. It is believed that participating in the radio dictation will contribute to strengthening cultural identity further. More on this event is available hereа.
The National Unity Radio Dictation is more than a literacy test. It is a symbol of unity, preservation of national identity, and love for the native language and homeland. Whether at home, work, in a shelter, or on the front line, everyone joined the flash mob for a shared goal.
