Memorandum on International Cooperation with the University Alliance Ruhr
From 4 to 11 July, Oleksandr Zaichuk, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, paid a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. The trip took place within the framework of the international project DniPRONrw, aimed at supporting higher education institutions of the Dnipro region and strengthening their cooperation with universities in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The key event of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar, and the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), which unites three leading German universities:
- Ruhr-Universität Bochum
- Technische Universität Dortmund
- Universität Duisburg-Essen
The signing ceremony took place at Ruhr University with the participation of the leadership of Ukrainian and German higher education institutions. The document envisages the development of academic partnerships, exchanges of students and academic staff, joint educational formats (including summer schools), and cooperation in scientific research. It also foresees the creation of a platform through which lecturers and students from Ukraine will be able to access the educational materials of the Alliance’s universities in both Ukrainian and English.
As part of the visit, the Ukrainian delegation attended the research laboratories, faculties, and institutes of the partner universities. In Bochum, the guests were introduced to the modern laboratories of the Faculties of Biology and Mechanical Engineering, where discussions focused on prospects for joint research and the launch of master’s and doctoral programmes.
At the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Ukrainian representatives visited the Faculty of Chemistry, where they learned about the work of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and examined equipment for electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. In Dortmund, the focus was on engineering and technology-oriented programmes for training specialists.
The visit marked an important step in strengthening Ukrainian-German academic relations. Due to the support of partners from Germany, new opportunities are opening up for educational and research projects that will contribute to the development of the University and the integration of Ukraine into the European educational space.
We hope this meeting has initiated a long-term international cooperation and friendship between higher education institutions of Dnipro and Germany!
