Memorandum of cooperation with O.P.E. LLC at the ReThink Waste 2025 Forum
On 2–3 October 2025, the international forum ReThink Waste 2025 was held in Lviv. This specialised platform is dedicated to modern approaches to municipal waste management and to the transition from a linear ‘waste’ model to a circular ‘resource’ model.
This year ReThink Waste 2025 brought together over 300 participants, including representatives of central and local authorities, municipalities, businesses, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, and international partners.
The programme included several thematic blocks, such as:
• Waste management strategy and policy.
• Modern practices of landfill disposal, reclamation, and infrastructure modernisation.
• International technical and financial assistance in waste management reform.
• ‘From waste to resources: innovations and challenges’ – a panel discussion focused on the implementation of organic waste collection, composting technologies, MBT plants, and bioenergy solutions.

The programme also included field visits to waste management facilities in Lviv, allowing participants to see the best practices – a landfill in Hrybovychi, a composting station, and a mechanical and biological treatment plant (MBT).
Within the framework of the forum, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between O.P.E. LLC (Director Serhii Prokopenko) and the Science and Technology Park of USUST (Director Volodymyr Malynovskyi), in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology and Life Safety of the SEI ‘USUCT’ (Head Nataliia Mitina).
O.P.E. LLC specialises in the waste management sector, particularly in the treatment of organic waste, and has extensive experience in the supply of composting equipment and related environmental technologies. The company is the official representative of the German group of companies Eggersmann, which offers a comprehensive range of equipment for waste processing and composting.
The Memorandum aims to implement joint initiatives in the following key areas:
- exchange of experience and technologies in the field of waste management;
- introduction of modern solutions for organic waste processing, composting, and resource reuse;
- development of sustainable infrastructure in communities across Ukraine;
- promotion and strengthening the culture of environmental responsibility and education.
The participation of USUST in the forum and the signing of the Memorandum open up new opportunities for implementing innovations in ecology and waste management at the educational and research levels. The cooperation between the university and the business sector is an important step to turn environmental initiatives, aimed at sustainable development and recovery of Ukraine, into practice.
