Kick-off meeting of the ‘GREEN-ED. Green Education of Dnipro’ project at USUST

Проєкт «GREEN-ED. Зелена освіта Дніпра» було започатковано 3 березня 2025 року для школярів міста Дніпра як пілотну ініціативу, що поєднує інтерактивне навчання та лабораторні експерименти з тем екології, якості довкілля та сталого розвитку. Проєкт реалізується педагогами Дніпра за підтримки Департаменту гуманітарної політики Дніпровської міської ради та передбачає не лише лекційні навчання, а й практичну діяльність у лабораторіях, інтегровані уроки, дослідження природи та розроблення екологічних ініціатив, що спрямовані на формування відповідального ставлення до довкілля у майбутніх поколінь. Минулого року уже в перші місяці реалізації проєкту понад 250 учнів із восьми шкіл міста долучилися до практичних занять, де під керівництвом педагогів і викладачів навчальних закладів опановували методи вимірювання забруднення повітря, оцінювання рівня нітратів у продуктах харчування та аналізу складу води річки Дніпро. Презентація проєкту відбувалась на базі Дніпровської гімназії №141.

The ‘GREEN-ED. Green Education of Dnipro’ project was launched on March 3, 2025, for school pupils of Dnipro as a pilot initiative combining interactive learning with laboratory experiments focused on ecology, environmental quality, and sustainable development. The project is implemented by Dnipro educators with the support of the Department of Humanitarian Policy of the Dnipro City Council and includes not only lecture-based learning but also hands-on laboratory activities, integrated lessons, environmental research, and the development of ecological initiatives aimed at fostering a responsible attitude toward the environment among future generations. During the first months of the project’s implementation last year, more than 250 students from eight city schools took part in practical sessions. Under the guidance of teachers and university lecturers, participants mastered methods for measuring air pollution, assessing nitrate levels in food products, and analyzing the composition of water from the Dnipro River.
 
The project presentation was held at Dnipro Gymnasium No. 141.
 
On January 15, 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies hosted a kick-off strategic meeting to prepare for the implementation of the educational project ‘GREEN-ED. Green Education of Dnipro’, aimed at introducing the principles of sustainable development, environmental awareness, and modern practices into the general secondary education system.
 
The meeting was attended by:
  • Olha Serhiivna Sverdlivkovska, Professor, director of the SEI ‘USUCT’ of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
  • Marharyta Ivanivna Skyba, Professor, deputy secretary of the Admission Committee of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
  • Nataliia Volodymyrivna Sierikova, head of the organizational work division of the general secondary education department of the Department of Humanitarian Policy of the Dnipro City Council.
  • Iryna Viktorivna Khomiak, director of Dnipro Gymnasium No. 141 of the Dnipro City Council.
During the meeting, the parties agreed on the organizational and content aspects of the project’s implementation. In particular, they defined the topics of upcoming lectures and laboratory practical sessions, approved a preliminary schedule for their weekly delivery through May, and outlined priority areas of cooperation between the university and schools of Dnipro.
 
Special attention was paid to innovative approaches to teaching ‘green’ chemistry, environmentally safe technologies, and hands-on experiments that foster environmental culture and a scientific worldview among school students.
The university already has experience in implementing the project. In 2025, the SEI ‘USUCT’ organized a series of environmental activities for school pupils, including interactive scientific stations, workshops, and demonstrations of experiments in chemistry and safe technologies, which contributed to promoting environmental education among young people.
 
The kick-off meeting became an important step in establishing partnerships between the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies, schools, and local self-government bodies, contributing to favorable conditions for the successful implementation of the project and  strengthening of environmental education in the region.
