Inventor’s Day at USUST

Ukraine’s Inventor and Rationalizer Day, traditionally celebrated on the third Saturday of September, highlights the critical role of innovation in societal development and is undoubtedly significant for our university.

On the occasion of the holiday, on September 19, 2024, a curatorial hour was held at the Educational and Scientific Institute “Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture” for first-year students, aiming to foster innovative thinking and encourage interest in scientific and research activities. The event was organized by the Department of Student Educational Work of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

The Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Doctor of Public Administration,  Halyna Yevsieieva, emphasized the importance of innovative thinking for students and noted that the university is a hub of educational and scientific initiatives. The event was moderated by Valentyna Babenko, Associate Professor of the Department of UDIA (Ukrainian Studies, Documentation, and Information Activities) at SEI PSACEA, deputy dean of the Faculty of Economics, and head of the scientific club “Intellectual Hackathon,” alongside leading specialist of the department, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olha Luchaninova.

At the meeting, students from various faculties learned about the rich inventive experience of PSACEA scientists, many of whom hold dozens or even hundreds of patents. Special attention was paid to the success stories of inventors who dared to step beyond traditional concepts, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Nikola Tesla. Lecturers from the university who made significant contributions to the development of the construction industry in Ukraine were also mentioned.

The central theme focused on the importance of innovation during wartime: young inventors are working on improving technologies for Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction. Valentyna Babenko’s presentation highlighted that inventors are “time travelers,” creating what the world will need in the future.

Students were inspired to get involved in scientific activities from the early stages of their education!
