Inventor and Innovator Day: greetings and achievements of USUST

Every year, on the third Saturday of September, Ukraine celebrates a professional holiday – Inventor and Innovator Day. This year, it is on September 20.
The occasion brings together people of diverse professions and specialties, all united by their talent for creating something new, going beyond the ordinary, and finding unconventional solutions.
 
The academic staff and researchers of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies also actively contribute to the innovation process. Their research and achievements in developing and applying new materials and technologies make a significant contribution to the advancement of science.
 
In 2025, the university’s community of inventors has shown remarkable activity. Almost all educational and scientific institutes have already submitted 50 applications for inventions and utility models – twice as many as in 2024. In particular:
  • DMI – 21 (6 inventions + 15 utility models)
  • PSACEA – 10 utility models
  • USUCT – 8 (2 inventions + 6 utility models)
  • Aerospace Institute – 6 inventions
  • DIIT – 5 utility models
 
Such growth in submitted applications and granted patents gives reason to expect that, by the end of 2025, USUST will be among the top 10 higher education institutions in Ukraine in terms of innovation performance.
We would like to highlight those who have achieved the greatest results in the number of patents obtained over the past year:
  • Oleksandra Andriivna Amelina (USUCT, 4 patents for inventions)
  • Liudmyla Kharytonivna Ivanova (DMI, 4 patents for inventions)
  • Oleksandr Viktorovych Zaichuk (USUCT, 4 patents for inventions)
  • Olena Serhiivna Khomenko (USUCT, 4 patents for inventions)
  • Kostiantyn Mykhailovych Sukhyi (USUCT, 3 patents for inventions + 3 for utility models)
  • Valerii Fedorovych Balakin (DMI, 3 patents for inventions + 2 for utility models)
  • Oleksandr Vasylovych Ivchenko (DMI, 1 patent for invention (AZ) + 4 for utility models
  • Mykhailo Ivanovych Medvediev (DMI, 4 patents for utility models)
A positive trend is also seen among doctoral and postgraduate students: they submitted 16 applications and obtained 9 patents.
The best results were achieved by:
  • Oleksii Yuriiovych Poloz (doctoral student of USUCT, 5 patents for utility models)
  • Roman Volodymyrovych Huba (postgraduate student of DMI, 2 patents for utility models)
In summer 2025, USUST inventors took part in the open competition ‘The best patent in the field of civil protection and fire safety’, organized by the National University of Civil Protection of Ukraine. As a result, patent No. 154498 ‘Method for manufacturing reinforcing bar with improved operational properties for reinforced concrete structures’ (co-authored by USUST and Karaganda Industrial University, Kazakhstan) was awarded a diploma.
