Innovative approaches to physical education for student youth at USUST
On 26 May 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies hosted the regional scientific and methodological conference ‘Physical education, sport, and the foundations of a healthy lifestyle in modern society’ dedicated to Science Day in Ukraine.
The event was organized by the SEI ‘PSAPCS’. Representatives of the Dnipropetrovsk Academy of Continuing Education also participated in the conference.
During the conference, the participants discussed current trends in the development of physical culture and sports, issues related to physical rehabilitation, the implementation of health-preserving technologies, and innovative approaches to organizing the educational process. Particular attention was given to promoting a healthy lifestyle, training specialists in the field of physical education, and advancing sports science in the context of contemporary challenges.
The conference featured a number of relevant scientific presentations addressing current issues in physical education, sports, rehabilitation, and health promotion.
In particular, Serhii Rokutov, head of the Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, delivered a presentation on the training of rehabilitation specialists under conditions of limited resources and martial law. He emphasized the need to adapt educational programmes and teaching approaches to the realities and challenges of the present day.
A presentation entitled ‘Institutional characteristics of military service’ was prepared by Andrii Serheiev, Candidate of Sciences in Physical Education and Associate Professor of the Department of Water Sports at the SEI ‘Prydniprovska State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports’ of USUST. The presentation examined the distinctive features of military service as an important state institution, its role in society, the requirements to military personnel, and the importance of physical fitness, discipline, and moral and psychological resilience. Particular attention was paid to fostering responsibility, patriotism, and readiness to perform official duties.
The report ‘The role of stress in shaping eating behaviour and sleep disorders among students’, by Viktor Velykorodnyi, Candidate of Medical Sciences at the Department of Anatomy, Biomechanics and Sports Metrology of the Faculty of Physical Rehabilitation, SEI ‘PSAPCS’, addressed the impact of stress on students’ physical and psychological well-being. The author noted that constant emotional strain may lead to disrupted eating patterns, insomnia, fatigue, and a deterioration in overall well-being. The report also emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle, regular sleep patterns, physical activity, and psychological support for maintaining health.
The conference also considered the importance of sport-applied gymnastics in the training of dancers, particularly for developing their physical fitness, coordination, endurance, and flexibility. These issues were presented in the report ‘Use of sport-applied gymnastics in the training process of dancers’ by Pavlo Shkarupilo, a representative of the Department of Gymnastics at the Prydniprovska State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports of USUST. The author emphasized that the use of special gymnastic exercises helps improve athletes’ technical skills, body plasticity, and overall physical preparedness.
Special attention was also paid to the functional state of the body of athletes with disabilities. The participants discussed specific features of physiological processes, body’s adaptive capacities, and modern approaches to rehabilitation and sports training for athletes.
As part of the scientific discussions, practical materials were presented on promoting a healthy lifestyle and countering common myths in the field of sport and physical activity. The speakers emphasized the importance of developing a proper training culture, maintaining a balanced diet, and encouraging physical activity among young people.
The regional scientific and methodological conference held at USUST became an important platform for the exchange of professional experience, research findings, and modern approaches in the fields of physical education, sport, and health preservation. The event contributed to the discussion of current challenges, the development of inter-university cooperation, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among young people. The conference participants emphasized the importance of implementing innovative methods and technologies in the education system and sports practice. USUST once again demonstarted its active role in advancing scientific and educational activities in the region.
