USUST Rector’s Address on the Fourth Anniversary of the War in Ukraine
Dear colleagues and students,
Four years have passed since the day that forever divided our lives into ‘before’ and ‘after’. The morning that began with explosions became the starting point of a new reality – harsh and painful, but one that also revealed the true strength of Ukrainian society. The past year of the war has brought its own challenges. Massive strikes on energy infrastructure resulted in prolonged blackouts and strict schedules of electricity, heating, and water outages. Generators, power banks, and working under limited resources became part of everyday life. Constant attacks by strike drones, air raid alerts, and unrelenting tension became part of our daily life. And despite all this, the university continues to work: to teach and learn, to conduct research, and to move forward.
Thanks to the courage and self-sacrifice of our defenders, we are able to preserve the educational and scientific front. The Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies lives and develops, preparing specialists who will shape the recovery economy, the infrastructure of the future, and modern science. We are laying the foundation for Ukraine that will be technological, law-governed, and European not only in shape, but in its values.
Our shared duty today is to do our work honestly and professionally – to preserve the quality of education, to advance science, to support each other, and to nurture the younger generation that will live and work in a rebuilt country.
Four years of war have changed each of us. They have taught us to value light in our classrooms and homes, active mind, and a chance to plan our future. They have taught us to take responsibility for our words, decisions, and choices.
We have endured the darkest days. We will endure the trials of today as well. Because we have faith, intelligence, and a common purpose. And above all, we have Ukraine – a country that has not been broken and will not be broken.
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
Kostiantyn Sukhyi
Rector of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies
