Graduates of USUST present a restoration project for a destroyed building
On 20 June 2025, the SEI ‘Prydniprovsk State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, USUST hosted the defence of a comprehensive Bachelor’s diploma project entitled ‘Restoration of a Residential Building at 24a Vykonkomivska Street’, which had been severely damaged as a result of a missile strike.
The project was developed through a collaborative effort of students from four departments of the academy:
- Department of Design and Reconstruction of the Architectural Environment – supervised by Anastasiia Akhaimova, Associate Professor; student Olesia Bondarenko
- Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures – supervised by Artem Sopilniak, Associate Professor; student Anastasiia Pravotorova
- Department of Construction Technology – supervised by Kostiantyn Dikarev, Associate Professor, and Anastasiia Haidar, Associate Professor; students Stanislav Lazovyi and Serhii Melnikov
- Department of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Gas Supply – supervised by Anatolii Petrenko, Associate Professor, and Iryna Holiakova, Associate Professor; students Artur Altynai and Mykhailo Safonov
The defence was conducted for four Examination Committees. The panel of chairs included Dmytro Volyk, Deputy Director of the Department, Head of the Main Architectural and Planning Directorate, Chief Architect of Dnipro; Volodymyr Kononov, Chief Executive Officer of Sodruzhestvo JSC; Andrii Shyshatskyi, Chief Executive Officer of DniproSantekhMontazh Municipal Enterprise; and Ivan Matiushenko, Director of TMD Group LLC.
Professor Kostiantyn Sukhyi, Rector of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies; Professor Vladyslav Danishevskyy, Director of the SEI ‘PSACEA’; Oleh Tupytsia, Head of the Council for Coordination of Rectors under the Mayor of Dnipro; Artem Pavlov, Director of the Legal Support Department of the City Council; Vladyslav Makarets, Head of the Department for Organizational Affairs; Ivan Nazarenko, President of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine as well as the representatives of higher education institutions and the construction industry attended to evaluate the project.
With the support of the Department for Community Self-Organization, the students carried out 3D scanning of the site using a Leica BLK360 scanner. The project implementation incorporated modern technical solutions, including the development of three reconstruction options accompanied by technical drawings, cost estimates, 3D models, and video presentations.
A post published on the official account of the Department states: “We are impressed by the professionalism and expertise demonstrated by the students… We would be pleased to see these young specialists among the Department’s staff.”
The defence became an important milestone for the graduates, who now have new opportunities ahead for professional development, employment, or further studies at the Master’s level. We sincerely congratulate them on the successful completion of their studies!
