Dormitory for Mariupol IDPs Opened at USUST

On May 30, 2025, a new dormitory for internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Mariupol was officially opened in Dnipro. The social housing facility was established on the premises of Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (2 Lazaryana St.) as part of the international humanitarian project “YaMariupol.Housing.”

This is the third facility in Dnipro adapted to provide comfortable living conditions for families from Mariupol. A distinctive feature of the new space is the studio-apartment layout—each unit is equipped with a private bathroom, shower, and kitchenette. In total, the dormitory houses 170 rooms, which can accommodate over 480 displaced individuals, including children, persons with disabilities, and families who lost their homes due to the war. Additionally, 20 rooms have been allocated for USUST students.

The dormitory offers all the necessary conditions for a full and comfortable life: rooms are furnished and equipped with appliances; there are designated areas for study and leisure, children’s and adult recreation zones, coworking spaces, and a small gym. The area surrounding the building has been landscaped with attention to inclusivity and safety.

The project was implemented with international support involving the governments of France, Liechtenstein, Japan, USAID, and several charitable and humanitarian organizations. Over UAH 33 million was allocated for the renovation and re-equipment of the dormitory, including UAH 10 million from the Dnipro city budget in the form of subsidies for improving the university campus infrastructure.
