Dissertation on strategic management of retail chains successfully defended at USUST
On April 27, 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies in Dnipro hosted the public defense of a PhD dissertation by Ivan Olehovych Bobyliev, a postgraduate student at the Department of Marketing and Logistics of the SEI ‘Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology’, USUST. The dissertation, titled ‘Development and Management Strategies for Retail Chains in Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian War’, was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the field 05 ‘Social and Behavioural Sciences’, specialty 051 ‘Economics’.
The supervisor is Nataliia Mykolaivna Chupryna, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, dean of the Faculty of Economics, Humanities and Law at the SEI ‘Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology’, USUST.
The dissertation addresses the highly relevant issue of adapting strategic management practices for retail chains under martial law. The study develops an adaptive model of strategic management that reflects the specific features of retail enterprises operating in crisis conditions. The proposed approaches include scenario planning tools, mechanisms for strengthening financial resilience, and ways to optimize logistics processes. The practical significance of the research findings is demonstrated through the analysis of the activities of ‘RUSH’ LLC and ‘Omega’ LLC.

- Reviewer – Anzhela Oleksiivna Cherchata, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, head of the Department of Economics, Management and Entrepreneurship at the SEI ‘Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture’, USUST.
- Official opponents – Olena Anatoliivna Bilovodska, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Professor at the Department of Marketing and Business Administration of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; Olena Viacheslavivna Stanislavyk, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, acting head of the Department of Management and Marketing at the State University of Intelligent Technologies and Telecommunications; Olha Anatoliivna Nikolaichuk, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor at the Department of Restaurant Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Business and Tourism of Kryvyi Rih National University.
Following an open vote, all five members of the council unanimously supported awarding Ivan Bobyliev the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
