Dissertation defense in metallurgy held at USUST

On May 22, 2026, the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies hosted the dissertation defense of Vadym Shcherbachov. Following the meeting,   the one-time specialized academic council made a decision to confer  the degree of Doctor of Philosophy  in the field 13 ‘Mechanical Engineering’, specialty 136 ‘Metallurgy’.

 

The defense was held at the SEI  ‘Dnipro Metallurgical Institute’, USUST as an open presentation of the dissertation research. The topic of the dissertation was ‘Improvement of the control of blast furnace charging with multicomponent burden based on   plastic zone parameters information’.

 

The research was supervised by Iryna Muraviova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, head of the Department of Technological Equipment and Control Systems at the Z.I. Nekrasov Iron and Steel Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

 

The one-time specialized academic council was chaired by Liudmyla Kamkina, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and dean of the Faculty of Metallurgical Processes and Chemical Technologies at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

 

The official opponents were Daria Kassim, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, acting head of the Department of Metallurgical Technologies at the State University of Economics and Technology (Kryvyi Rih), and Hennadii Kriachko, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Prof. V.I. Loginov Department of Ferrous Metallurgy at Dnipro State Technical University (Kamianske).

The dissertation reviewers were Valerii Ivashchenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and ddeputy director of the SEI  ‘Dnipro Metallurgical Institute’ USUST, and Volodymyr Bochka, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Iron and Steel Metallurgy at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

 

The presented research was highly praised by the members of the one-time specialized academic council.
