Department of Economic Informatics at USUST celebrates 57 years of cybernetic education

The Department of Economic Informatics was established at the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (then the Dnipro Metallurgical Institute) on March 1, 1969. It became one of the first academic centers in Ukraine which trained specialists in the fields of digital economy and information technologies. In 2026, the department celebrates its 57th anniversary, summarizing its achievements, traditions, and new prospects for future development.

Over more than half a century, the department has built a strong educational and research foundation that allows training specialists at the intersection of economics, information technologies, and data analytics.

The faculty members have a high level of professional expertise, undertake internships both in Ukraine and at EU educational institutions, actively participate in scientific conferences, and publish their research in journals indexed in international scientometric databases. The graduates of the department are in demand on labor market and successfully pursue careers in IT companies, banks, enterprises, and analytical services.

The department offers educational programs in  the fields related to economic informatics and information technologies in economics, including:
  • ‘Information Technologies and Modeling in Economics’ (specialty C1 Economics and International Economic Relations);
  • ‘Computer Technologies in Business’ (specialty F6 Information Systems and Technologies).
These programs combine fundamental knowledge of economics, mathematical modeling, databases, and digital systems to address managerial and business challenges in current conditions.

Partners and alumni play a significant role in the development of the department. A long-standing sponsor is Yurii Vasylovych Atanasov, a graduate of group EI-81 and CEO of PJSC ‘CENTRAVIS PRODUCTION UKRAINE’. With his support, the educational process is conducted in modern computerized classrooms. Special thanks are extended to the IT company EPAM, which contributes to computer equipment upgrade and higher technical level of the learning environment.

Students have always been and remain the driving force of the department. Traditionally, on the department’s anniversary, a ceremony of welcoming first-year students into the community of cybernetics was held. The event became a festive occasion symbolizing the unity of generations and transfer of knowledge and professional values.

The department’s staff expresses sincere gratitude to everyone who joined the celebration and helped create an atmosphere of unity and support. They are sure that cybernetic principles will continue to guide the department’s development, ensuring a systematic, dynamic, and innovative approach to educating the specialists of the future.
