Defense of Master’s Theses at USUST under the Educational Program “Energy Auditing and Energy Efficiency in Construction”

On May 23 and 26, 2025, the defense of master’s theses by research students under the educational program “Energy Auditing and Energy Efficiency in Construction” took place at the SEI “Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture” of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies. This educational program was updated within the framework of project 101082898 – UKRENERGY, co-funded by the European Union: “Innovative Master’s Courses to Support the Improvement of the Energy and Carbon Footprint of Ukraine’s Building Stock.”

To conduct experiments, modern equipment of the Energy Innovation Hub was actively used. The equipment was provided under the “Professional Qualifications” component of the project “Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine”, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the governments of Germany and Switzerland.

In their research work, master’s students explored pressing issues such as:

• energy-efficient reconstruction of Ukraine;
• creation of energy-efficient buildings based on NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings) principles;
• monitoring of distributed energy storage systems;
• study of indoor microclimate parameters;
• use of renewable energy sources.

The presented theses sparked lively interest and active discussions among members of the examination board and invited stakeholders, as reflected in the high grades awarded during the defense. Most importantly, the research results are already suitable for implementation in Ukraine’s construction and energy sectors.
