A New Victory for a USUST Graduate

On the evening of February 6, 2025, the international Udin Jump Development high jump competition took place in Udine, Italy.

A graduate of the Department of Athletics at the SEI “Prydniprovska State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports” of USUST, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, confidently claimed victory, clearing the bar at 1.94 meters. The top three also included Liliana Batory from Hungary (1.91 m) and Idea Pieroni from Italy (1.88 m).

A special moment of the competition was Yaroslava’s entrance into the arena alongside the legendary Javier Sotomayor. The 57-year-old Cuban, who holds the men’s world record (2.45 m, Salamanca, 1993), joined the Ukrainian champion in holding the hand of a young athletics fan, who wore a personalized bib number. This symbolic gesture sparked thunderous applause from the audience.
