3D scanning of water supply facilities for Mykolaiv
In June 2025, 3D scanning works were carried out in the Mykolaiv region as part of the experimental construction of a new water pipeline supplying the city of Mykolaiv. The project is being implemented in the framework of mitigating the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant and is aimed at ensuring a stable water supply for the city.
The works were carried out as part of a large-scale infrastructure project involving the construction of a water intake facility from the Southern Bug River and a main water pipeline. Advanced digital technologies were employed for technical supervision, including laser 3D scanning of selected facilities at the current stage of construction.
A team of engineers from the private design company ‘TRADING ASSOCIATION AIMG’ LLC under the leadership of expert Oleksandr Nesterchuk performed the works, along with some leading specialists from the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
Scientific and engineering support on behalf of USUST was provided by a group of specialists from the SEI ‘PSACEA’ headed by Artem Sopilniak, Associate Professor.
The facilities were scanned using a Leica BLK360 laser 3D scanner from the 3D Modelling Laboratory of the CREATE Center of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
The use of high-precision equipment made it possible to promptly obtain a detailed spatial BIM model of the structural elements of the water pipeline and to document the actual condition of the construction facilities.
The obtained digital models were used for further technical analysis, auditing, and planning of subsequent stages of project implementation. The application of 3D scanning technology enables to identify potential deviations from design solutions and significantly enhance the efficiency of quality control in construction works.
The involvement of the scientific and technical potential of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies in the implementation of such projects is an example of the practical application of modern digital technologies in the restoration and development of Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
