Greetings on Railway Worker’s Day in Ukraine 2024

Dear colleagues, employees, and students!

Today, November 4, 2024, we celebrate Railway Worker’s Day in Ukraine — a day when we pay tribute to the heroic individuals who ensure continuous movement, economic resilience, defense capability, and the future development of our country. On this day, we firmly recall that it was in 1861 that the first train “Yaroslav” arrived in Lviv, opening the way for Ukraine to Europe. Today, this path is more important than ever for our future.

Strong connections unite our Dnipro Institute of Infrastructure and Transport with the Prydniprovska Railway — a transport hub that allows the economic heart of our region to beat in rhythm with Ukrainian independence. “Prydniprovska“ as our regional branch of Ukrainian Railways is affectionately called, ensures the livelihood of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions and maintains transport links with other regions of Ukraine. Your work is about transporting goods and passengers, ensuring economic stability and development, and about defense capability…

Today, in these times of wartime turmoil, we cannot fail to acknowledge the crucial role of the railway. You save lives by evacuating people from dangerous regions and delivering humanitarian aid. Your service to Ukraine is an example of courage and dedication. Your work is not just a profession; it is a mission. You are representatives of the “iron industry,” as your strength is comparable to the toughness of the strongest steel… You give the country the ability to fend off the enemy and to survive!
We are proud that our University has close ties with the Prydniprovska Railway. Together, we prepare specialists who will soon become pioneers of new ideas and technologies on new high-speed domestic and international routes. Students of our institute, especially from the military department, learn the fundamentals of engineering and strategies that will strengthen the defense capability of our country.

I am confident that the new generation of specialists will pave the way for reconstruction and modernization, returning Ukraine to peace and European living standards.

On this festive day, I wish you new achievements, inspiration, and boundless energy! May your efforts always lead to the light, and may the routes and tracks you lay become not only pathways to European borders but also bridges to a peaceful European future for our Ukraine!

With respect and gratitude,
Kostiantyn Sukhyi
Acting Rector of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.
